Position Background

Job Purpose
Be actively involved in the planning and implementation of Government of India’s AMRUT 2.0, supported by SWNI, while working with the MoHUA at their New Delhi office, as well as work in the SWNI New Delhi office.
Position Background
The position has been specifically designed to meet the donor project requirements that require scale up of small water enterprises in urban cities across India and position the organization as water sector expert and support fund raising. The incumbent will be required to develop, maintain and strengthen working relationships with key partners, including national ministries, state governments, urban local bodies, project partners and other sector stakeholders to increase synergy and promote the SWE drinking water sector. As the research associate/ consultant, you will represent Safe Water Network India as the Technical Service Unit to the MoHUA. Position
This position is key in maintaining the entities’ legal status and understanding the financial viability and success of the model in the field. The role is multi-faceted, involving Strategy, Policy and Planning, Business Analytics, Finance, Reporting & Compliance, and supporting fundraising, knowledge, and partnerships. The primary responsibilities include:
Financial Planning and Analytics
The Trust facilitates safe, affordable water access while an independent field service entity provides the technical service support. We develop three-year plans for all the entities in advance and provide visibility to our donors and partners.
- Participate in the annual budget process, including analysis and estimates of expenditures. Assemble, format, and perform a preliminary analysis of budget
- Review the financial performance and quarterly projections along with the finance
- Prepare budget presentation materials and financial reporting tools (i.e., Dashboard).
- Review the intra-department budgets and make recommendations on the allocation of expenses to Develop and maintain allocation spreadsheets.
- Update expenditure forecasts and ensure alignment with and revenue
- Review existing reporting requirements and formats to suggest ways to improve efficiency and productivity
- On a real-time basis, stay abreast of actual activity and developments that can impact individual unit
- Ensure statutory filings, returns as well as financial books closure on time
- Get statutory, donor, and US audits of our operations and smoothly closure the grants

Business Analytics of Safe Water Station financials:
iJal Station operates in nearly 350 communities by facilitating local entrepreneurs, SHGs, or communities in its operation, customer acquisition, and maintenance. We receive the monthly financials from all the stations. We classify these concerning local financial sustainability in operations, repayment of the capital, and generating some returns for the entrepreneurs. When clubbed with age and customer enrollment, this analysis provides us with a deeper understanding of the long-term sustainability or viability of the model. We also assess cluster viability through the development of:
- Devise financial projections (P&L) at cluster and station levels for up to 5-20 years, as
- Station financials on a monthly/quarterly basis to suggest any corrective action required in the field
- Assist in the development of financial and operational models & improvements for eventual scale-up.
- Provide general analytical support to the Program and Development teams on model
- Own central operational, financial performance data repository and share country updates with
- Reporting and Analysis of Station level financial to donors
Documentation & Sector Analysis
It is critical for us to diligently record our lessons (both success and failure with reasons) and share those transparently for the benefit of the sector at large involving:
- Write field insights on an analysis drawn through financials and field
- Developing a report on financial hurdles for scale-up in the sector to inform policy and merits of market- based approach for consumers at the bottom of the pyramid

Proposal development and donor financial reporting as well as assisting in fundraising with the financial sector

Financial data integration
To minimize the time in collecting vast information from the field, we continue to refine our tools. The field operators and mobilizers can input data on our cloud-based database through an easy interface of Android Tablets. We have, therefore, already developed some elementary tools for station financial data entry, complaint registration, daily volume, and consumer registration reporting apart from quality tracking purposes. The data thus collected from the field needs to be verified to ensure the integrity of online entries. Similarly, business analytics software needs are expanding, and the potential incumbent will lead the business analytics work in close coordination with the international resources. The responsibility also includes sharing financial data transparently with our licensors in the US.
Education / Experience / Skills Requirements
- Certified Chartered Accountant / CFA with over fifteen years of experience in financial analysis and

Job Purpose
Be actively involved in the project implementation of “Peyjal Sarvekshan” on the lines of Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness Survey) initiative of the Government of India, while working with the MoHUA at their New Delhi office. Position Background
