This assessment of drinking water supply in the City of Hyderabad has been conducted to assess the gaps and challenges in providing drinking water supply and evaluate the potential of SWEs as a complementary solution.

The following observations were made during this assessment:
- Hyderabad’s piped water connections provide insufficient quantity to meet demand
- As Hyderabad’s population grows, so will its unmet water needs
- USWEs have the potential to help meet Hyderabad’s drinking water needs, especially for the poor.
- There are few USWEs in Hyderabad, and they face operational and financial challenges.
- The urban poor suffer the consequences of unsafe water, but many are willing to pay for treated supply.
- The government has made significant commitments to water, but sources alternate to the piped network will remain
important. - Efficiency of the piped network could be improved, especially through reduction of non-revenue water and improved
metering, billing, and collection. - Expanding the suite of digital tools will help Hyderabad officials incorporate water into e-governance initiatives.
